If there was ever a car that has some enormous shoes to
fill, that's the next generation Nissan GT-R. Wait; did we say
"next"? Yes, we did, because a Nissan spokesman confirmed the
development of a successor that will be presented as a 2016 model (in the United
States) to Motor Trend magazine during the Nissan 360 global press event held
last week in California.
While the spokesperson wouldn't give out a precise date, he
specifically said the new GT-R will be a "2016MY", which means it
should land in showrooms in late 2015.
No other information was shared, so we'll have to wait for
another talkative representative to spill the technical beans on the GT-R, and
see whether the rumors about a hybrid powertrain in the likes of so many other
upcoming sports cars, including the 2015 Acura / Honda NSX and the Ferrari
LaFerrari, will come true.
Before the new GT-R arrives, Nissan will give buyers another
reason to take a good look at the current version with an even faster and more
focused Nismo variant, which has been confirmed to arrive next year.
"The Nissan GT-R NISMO is the GT-R with which we pursue
pure performance," said Hiroshi Tamura, Nissan GT-R and NISMO Chief
Product Specialist in a press statement released on Friday. "It is for
people who search for true performance with pure motorsports flavor. Its
development is on schedule, and I can’t wait to see the model introduced into
the markets."
